Conservator Ann Frellsen shares best practices for libraries tasked with caring for and preserving scrapbooks and photo albums–those ‘composite objects’ that can be so complex due to the wide assortment of materials found inside. After 27 years of service, Ms. Frellsen retired as the Book and Paper Conservator for Emory University Libraries in 2017. This is a recording of a live webinar from August 23, 2018.
Participants will learn:
-The differing–and often competing–needs of typical media involved, including photos, paper, objects (cake, anyone?), and binding structures;
-Strategies for managing access and use to prevent further damage;
-Practical and easy preservation techniques;
-Ideas for community engagement and supply fundraising
Slides, handouts, and documents that reference products and techniques discussed are available at http://bit.ly/careandprotect.
